Internet Business Scam
There are so many internet business scams out there, how would you know the program you are about to join is not one of them?
Even when there is no sure fire when to know for sure (unless you have already been duped), you can do some safety checks to protect yourself from internet business scams:
1. Internet business scams will always originate from a website. Do a whois on the website’s domain name and see what information you get. The domain owner/ manager and location should be the same as what is on the website. The domain or business owner should also not sound like a dubious entity. You can also check the website domain and IP address against several live lists of online spammers. Legitimate businesses would be aware enough of the negative effects of being labeled as spam, and would steer clear from identified spammer hosts and IPs.
2. Is the business a legitimate commercial entity? Whether or not you market on the web, a business should have a duly registered name and business registration documentation. You can check the business registration website in the said company’s locality. Legitimate business will take care to fulfill all government requirements before they engage in business.
3. Google the marketing information you receive. If the program is trying to get you to signup for a service or buy books of some guru, check the service’s or guru’s name online. If the program has tricked anyone, most probably, the victim will post information about the incident somewhere. With so many user-driven content sites these days, the victim will most like speak out against the program, at the very least.
